The Kenya National Trading Corporation Ltd is a State Corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries & Co-operatives which was incorporated in 1965. Its mandated to act as a procurement agent for the government and to participate in the promotion of wholesale and retail trade in order to strengthen the supply chain of essential products. The Corporation is also mandated with the responsibility of supporting the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector through supply of raw materials and identification of markets for their products.
Over the years, KNTC has assumed additional functions as spelt out in the successive development plans and through Government directives. KNTC continues to target, identify and respond to the market competition, enhance its corporate branding, visibility and diversify its product and service portfolio.
MANDATE
1)Participate in the promotion of wholesale/retail business and e-trade in line with Vision 2030, the medium term plan and the parent ministry’s strategic plan.
2)Improve and strengthen supply chain and distribution systems for both the formal and informal sector
3)To be a Procurement Agent for the government and general public at reasonable commercial prices.
4)Partner with other key players to avail relevant products/input for the agricultural sector.
5)Promote the development of MSME’s markets, expansion and diversifications of trade in line with the Government Policy.
6)To set up trading houses in export markets
