Japhet Koome succeeds IG Hillary Mutyambai.


Japhet Koome’s nomination as Inspector General of Police in Kenya was approved by a committee of the Senate and the National Assembly.

On Wednesday, November 8, only one day after appearing before the committee for screening, Koome was officially approved.

Noor Gabow has been acting in the role since Hillary Mutyambai left on September 13.

According to the Constitution, President William Ruto nominated Koome on Tuesday, September 27.

The police chief told the committee that he was eligible for the top post after 31 years of service and a spotless record.

Koome, who is waiting for President William Ruto’s OK, has put his wealth at around Ksh89 million.

He broke down his sources of riches as follows: his pay as a police officer and his successes as an enthusiastic farmer who acquired two lorries to assist him in his undertakings.
