Director, Biosafety Research & Compliance at National Biosafety Authority Full Time

Job Description:

The Biosafety Directorate is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Director, Biosafety Research, Standards and Licensing. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising the CEO and Board on policies and strategies related to biosafety research, standards and licensing, biosafety clearing house, international cooperation, monitoring and surveillance. They will also be responsible for implementing the Biosafety Act and regulations, establishing frameworks for GMO approval and management, compliance with international obligations, coordinating regional and international agreements, resource mobilization, registration and strengthening of institutional biosafety committees, facilitation of trade, approval of GMO-free certificates, proper labeling and traceability of approved GM commodities, and overseeing the monitoring and post-release monitoring of approved GMO research projects.

Qualifications:

• At least twelve (12) years of work experience, including five (5) years in a management role
• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Microbiology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
• Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Microbiology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
• Professional qualification and membership to a professional body where applicable
• Completed leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
• Demonstrated results in work performance
• Proficiency in computer applications
• Must fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
