Kenyatta Hospital – Principal, Health Administrative Officer Full Time

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the implementation of administrative policies, procedures, and guidelines.
2. Monitor departmental income and expenditure.
3. Coordinate maintenance of buildings and equipment.
4. Manage the inventory of assets.
5. Manage contracts for maintenance services by outside vendors and ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
6. Prepare Annual Operational Plans and budgets for presentation to management.
7. Ensure quality standards and procedures are followed.
8. Implement performance management initiatives in the department.
9. Ensure safe custody and efficient use of hospital resources.
10. Identify training and development gaps and implement interventions.
11. Provide administrative support to all departments within the hospital.
12. Promote the hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety initiatives.
13. Provide secretariat services to Hospital Committees.
14. Negotiate and set performance targets for the staff reporting directly.
15. Ensure security & safety of patients and staff.
16. Participate in policy formulations and implementation.
17. Ensure timely payment of bills for common services.
18. Coordinate common services in the hospital.
19. Project departmental training needs.
20. Ensure timely procurement of departmental requirements.
21. Make requisitions for appropriate office furniture and equipment.

Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in either Health Management, Hospital Administration, Hospital Planning, Public Health, Health Economics and Business Administration, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
2. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following Social Sciences: Government, Anthropology, Sociology, Business Administration, Public Administration, Commerce, Health Economics, Health Management, Hospital Administration, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
3. Leadership/ course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
4. Membership with relevant Professional Body.
5. Proficiency in computer applications.
6. Working experience of a minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work with at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
