Lecturer in Special Needs Grade 12 at Pwani University Full Time

Qualifications:

• Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Special Needs from an accredited and recognized university.
• The candidate should be a member of relevant professional bodies.
• The candidate should have evidence of contribution to University/Research Institution through activities such as participation in departmental management, students’ academic/research advising, school or University/Institutional meetings, committee membership, and related matters.
• The candidate should demonstrate community involvement (e.g. Member of BOG, SMC, etc.).

Skills:

• The applicant should be able to teach, conduct research, and supervise students and/or staff.
• The applicant should be able to design and develop academic programs and curriculum.
• The applicant should have published at least two (2) publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities:

• Identify research needs in society to inform potential areas of research and contribute to the body of knowledge.
• Develop and write proposals to inform and justify the need for research and source for funds in accordance with donor regulations and ethical standards.
• Conduct research by implementing objectives through the use of relevant methods to increase the body of knowledge.
• Disseminate and share research findings to inform and influence policy and provide solutions to societal needs.
• Aid the University in meeting its mandate while contributing to individual development and standing of the University in research matters.
• Grade and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students to conduct their research in accordance with ethical and quality standards.
• Process digital and manual examinations to ensure integrity in the grading of students.
• Provide guidance and counseling to students to enable them to improve their performance, instill professional values and encourage confidence to work in the industry.
• Engage in administrative work such as consulting with students to create awareness of the industry, enhance academic performance, and ensure proper career selection.
• Use listening, interpersonal, and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support to foster mental stability required for good performance.
• Respond to pedagogical and practical challenges for efficient running of the department and institution.
• Collaborate with colleagues on academic content and on the assessment of students’ work to ensure the quality of teaching.
