Post Doctoral Research Scientist at the University of Nairobi Full Time

Overall Job Purpose:

The early career postdoctoral research scientist will conduct research on Immunometabolism, metabolic dysfunction, and immunology work, which includes visualizing mucosal tissue barriers and host target or effector cells.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct experiments to study the interactions between metabolism and immunity.
• Develop and implement methods for high-throughput metabolic profiling.
• Perform molecular biology techniques such as amplification, sequencing and analyzing DNA or rRNA.
• Conduct immunofluorescence staining and microscopy of tissue sections and flow cytometry.
• Perform ex vivo explant experiments using human tissues.
• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and notebooks.
• Assist in training and supervising junior researchers, students, and technicians.
• Collaborate with other members of the research team on projects and publications.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field and incorporate new techniques into the laboratory’s research program.
• Perform any other responsibilities that may arise from time to time.

Required Academic Qualifications:

• PhD degree in immunology, molecular biology or related fields.
• Proven track record in immunology, metabolomics and/or molecular biology laboratory research.
• At least three publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Competencies:

• High level of English language competence appropriate for scientific journal article submissions.
• Self-directed, highly motivated, adaptable and capable of adhering to important milestones.

Terms of appointment:

This is a one-year contract renewable by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
